Label Sizing

🏷️ Shipping Label Sizing: What Size Should You Use?

When printing shipping labels through ShipGenius, it's important to use the correct label size so carriers can scan and route your package without delays or errors.

📐 Standard Label Size: 4" x 6"

This is the most widely accepted shipping label size, used by:

  • USPS

  • UPS

  • FedEx

  • DHL

  • Regional carriers

Why 4x6?

  • Fits all required elements: barcode, address, routing codes, and branding.

  • Works with thermal label printers (e.g., Rollo, Zebra, Dymo).

  • Fits easily on most packages, from poly mailers to boxes.

✅ ShipGenius generates all labels in this standard 4x6 format by default.

🖨️ Less Common: 4" x 8" or Custom Sizes

Some specialty carriers or international shipments may support 4x8" labels, which allow more room for:

  • Larger customs declarations

  • Additional tracking info

  • Branded elements (e.g., logos, instructions)

However, most platforms, including ShipGenius, do not default to 4x8 unless explicitly required by the carrier.

⚠️ Using the wrong label size may cause scanning issues or delivery delays.
